The UK cybersecurity market is now a sizeable industry in its own right. The government's 2026 sector analysis counted 2,603 active cybersecurity firms, estimated annual sector revenue of £14.7 billion and around 69,600 full-time-equivalent jobs. That scale supports a market far broader than the best-known software brands.
This guide focuses on companies with strong UK roots or a significant British operating base. Some are independent, some have been acquired, and some combine products with security services. The common feature is that cybersecurity is central to what they sell.
The established names built Britain's international reputation
Darktrace was founded in Cambridge and became one of the country's most visible cybersecurity exports through its machine-learning-based network and cloud security products. The company was acquired by Thoma Bravo but retains a substantial UK presence. Sophos has an even longer history and remains a major endpoint and managed-security vendor with deep British roots.
NCC Group is different because services sit at the centre of the business. It provides cyber consulting, testing, managed services and software escrow to organisations that need independent security expertise rather than only a software product.
Cloud and incident response have created newer specialists
Quorum Cyber has grown quickly in managed detection, incident response and Microsoft-focused security services. Cado Security built cloud investigation and forensic technology designed for modern infrastructure where evidence may sit across temporary workloads rather than fixed servers.
SenseOn developed an integrated detection and response platform, while Panaseer focuses on cyber risk and security controls data. These companies reflect a shift from buying isolated security tools toward understanding whether controls are working across complex environments.
Identity and human behaviour remain large attack surfaces
OneLogin and Okta are international leaders with UK operations, but Britain has produced its own identity and verification businesses. Onfido became one of the best-known examples before being acquired by Entrust. Yoti continues to build digital identity and age-assurance products from the UK.
Immersive Labs approaches the problem from skills rather than identity. Its platform helps organisations test and improve cyber capabilities through exercises and simulations. The underlying assumption is sensible: a company can own expensive security software and still be vulnerable if its people cannot respond under pressure.
Threat intelligence remains a British strength
Recorded Future is US-founded, but the UK has produced firms such as Searchlight Cyber, which specialises in dark-web intelligence, and Cyjax, which focuses on threat intelligence and monitoring. BAE Systems Digital Intelligence also has a large security and intelligence technology business linked to government and critical infrastructure customers.
This part of the market benefits from Britain's defence, intelligence and financial-services ecosystems. Customers in those sectors tend to have high security requirements and can support specialist suppliers that later sell into international markets.
The sector is becoming more commercial, not less technical
The government's 2026 analysis found continued revenue growth even as investment remained selective. That matters because security companies increasingly need to prove operational value rather than rely on fear-driven spending. Buyers are consolidating tools and asking vendors to demonstrate that products reduce risk, improve response times or lower the cost of running security operations.
For British companies, the opportunity is strong. The challenge is crowded procurement. A technically good product still needs distribution, integrations and a clear reason for a security team to replace something already embedded in its stack.
